Seneca Bridging Finance is led by Steve Charnock, co-founder of Seneca Partners. The core team brings together decades of proven hands-on capability in property and construction, finance and underwriting.

Steve Charnock

Steve qualified as a chartered accountant in 1986 before joining Charterhouse Securities as a Building and Construction Analyst and later becoming a Managing Director and Head of Research.

Steve was voted number one Construction Analyst in 2000 and 2001 in the Reuters Survey for UK smaller companies.

Steve set up his own consultancy business in early 2003, co-founded Seneca Partners in 2010 and sits on a number of private and public company boards.

Richard Manley's Image

Richard Manley

Richard holds a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics from the University of Birmingham and qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG in 2003. He worked for KPMG for over 5 years, initially in their audit business and latterly in their corporate recovery division working on financial and operational restructurings and formal insolvencies.

In 2007, Richard joined NM Rothschild’s leveraged finance team in Manchester before joining Cenkos Fund Managers in June 2008. During his time with Cenkos Fund Managers, manager of the £60m pre-IPO investment fund RRF Ltd, Richard gained extensive experience of flotations, fundraisings, mergers, acquisitions and restructurings.

Richard is the Managing Partner of Seneca Partners and a member of the Investment and Credit Committees.

Tim Murphy's Image

Tim Murphy

Tim commenced his finance career with Barclays in 1983 where he fulfilled various corporate and credit roles before joining County NatWest in 1990 where he held a number of positions in structured and acquisition finance.

In 1993, Tim joined the Royal Bank of Scotland’s fledgling Acquisition Finance business, initially establishing the Leeds office. He was subsequently responsible for all UK regional teams and in 2002, he founded RBS Corporate & Structured Finance. As Joint Managing Director, he had overall responsibility for the national mid-cap structured finance business, whilst also being a member of the Royal Bank of Scotland's Corporate Credit Committee.

In 2005, Tim was hired by Deloitte, Manchester, as a corporate finance partner with the remit to establish the National Debt Advisory business, advising on capital raising and stressed debt refinancing.

After a successful spell, he joined HBOS as UK Managing Director Large Corporate in 2008.

Tim joined Seneca from NorthEdge Capital, where he was a founding partner of the business, established to focus on stressed corporate opportunities.

Mark Hopton's Image

Mark Hopton

Mark qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG in 1991.

Mark gained extensive experience of corporate finance, restructurings and an AIM flotation in his roles as Head of Finance at Raytheon Corporate Jets and as Finance Director of FADS Group.

Mark joined Cenkos Fund Managers in 2009 as an Investment Manager and further enhanced his experience of fundraisings, mergers, acquisitions and restructurings during his three years with the company.

Mark joined Seneca in 2011 to assist in the management of our investee companies and lending activities. He provides invaluable financial management, analysis and reporting both internally and as an outsourced client service.

Mark Harrison's Image

Mark Harrison

Mark’s commercial finance career began with Bank of Scotland where he ultimately managed the bank’s offering in the retail and leisure property sectors. He joined Merrill Lynch and spent 7 years in senior management roles before moving to GE Capital as the Sales Director for their Home Lending division. He led GE’s response to the 2008 financial crisis and successfully delivered a major change programme to reduce their exposure to the sub-prime residential market.

He left GE to establish his own consultancy, in which time his reputation and knowledge of the intermediary community grew to the point where he was eventually enticed back into employment.

He joins us from Amicus where his ability to source, review and structure complex development finance proposals contributed to the lender firmly establishing themselves in the market. Mark’s role is to grow Seneca’s presence in the commercial intermediary sector, fine-tune our internal processes and provide leadership to the relationship management team.

Paul Fitzsimmons's Image

Paul Fitzsimmons

Paul qualified as a Town Planner in 1999 before joining Network Rail, managing tenants and facilities at London major stations.

He then moved to BAA where he spent 8 years as a Senior Manager at Edinburgh Airport. Consulting roles at Manchester and Dublin Airports followed, before Paul moved into a commercial role within the real estate and alternative lending sectors.

Paul joins us to provide industry-leading service to our clients. He is in the third year of his Executive MBA studies at the University of Strathclyde.

Natalie Smethurst's Image

Natalie Smethurst

Natalie graduated in 2000 with a BA (Hons) in Business Management and has since worked in the financial services industry. Natalie worked for a high street bank and a building society undertaking mortgage underwriting, marketing and customer service roles and in 2014 Natalie joined the bridging finance team at Seneca.

Natalie is a member of the Institute of Financial Services (IFS) having gained various industry related qualifications, including the Advanced Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice (Adv CeMAP).

Aziz Shan's Image

Aziz Shan

Aziz joined Seneca in 2013 as part of the banking advisory team. Aziz graduated from the University of Leeds with a First in Law (LL.B.) and went on to complete a Masters’ degree in International Business Law (LL.M.) at the University of Manchester. During the LL.M., Aziz focused his attention on EU competition law, shipping law and cross-border litigation.

Following completion of the same, Aziz qualified as a barrister (2010, Inner Temple). Prior to joining Seneca, Aziz practised at a law firm specialising in commercial litigation, employment law and negligence work. Aziz is an experienced litigator in those areas.
